Music and Protest

The 1960s obviously produced some of the best music during very turbulent times.

You have Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez (Oh, Freedom!), Simon and Garfunkel, and Peter, Paul and Mary just to name a few.

They were very political, but in retrospect we enjoy their harmonies and nascent methods (Jimi Hendrix!). We don’t feel their politics when we listen now, necessarily.

If we are going through another significant protest movement with the LA protests/riots that are spreading, I fear our music will be lacking.

Who will come to deliver the beauty and commentary through their songs?

Discount this questioning due to my lack of exploration, but my gut says that the Neil Young’s aren’t appearing and that we have, instead, paid influencers doing the work of commentary.

Hopefully I am wrong.
