I’m unsure about where we’re “at” in this timeline, but the weight of it all feels like it’s speeding up.
The killing of Alex Pretti by ICE is very sad. And it’s incredibly wrong and evil.
I wish I could make more sense of things, but we’re seemingly racing to a new bottom.
I’m not sure how to participate in stopping what feels like the falling apart of a liberal democracy and hard days ahead. The answer in my head has been: be a good day, a good husband, and a good and useful part of Black Mountain.
I fear that I – and all of us who want to be those things – may be called to actively participate in stopping the slide in the Great Ravine.
God grant the ears to hear. The eyes to see vision. The courage to participate in the kingdom of heaven on earth–all things made well.
Coming back to this a few minutes later, perhaps 10.

The grift we’re being dragged through isn’t fully priced in yet. I suspect a non-trivial amount of the “late-days” sensibilities is somewhat due to people grifting and making us all suffer because of it.
There’s probably still a ways to go before the “leaders” and the “influencers” we’ve all been made to follow and listen to and care about these last 10 years get caught out in the cold with their pants down. Think Nazis on trial at Nuremberg.
What I’m saying is, this killing of Alex Pretti is sickening. It angers me. It angers me that my internal dialogue tells me to still be defensive about simple answers (i.e., “he was murdered by ICE officers”) but this is a pretty simple, cut and dry, thing that happened.
I’m not sure when this madness ends, or if when the kids look back on a post like this one the U.S. will be better or we’ll still be going through the Great Ravine in this country.
But this sort of thing can’t stand.
We have to reject the grifters first and put them through at the very least the justice of public opinion, sending them away.
