A cold, caught.

It seems like every time I begin a new round of training, I get sick. Usually, it’s only a day or two, but this time I’ve had some sort of significant chest cold since late Tuesday this week.

I’ve been pretty disciplined with the scimune and dayquill/nyquill + coconut water and pedialyte, but it has hung on in a serious way.

Tomorrow, I hope I am back to normal.

I don’t have health insurance at the moment, so naturally the fear of more-than-a-cold visits my mind. Probably though, I’ve picked up some thing or other from the kids being in school, and being kids. No offense to kids out there, they just have less than reasonable germ awareness. And good for them!

After coming back from Eugene and feeling on top from a good marathon, I’ve jumped back into a more disciplined 8 week training block for a half marathon I’ll do in Greenville (not a race, just an effort) at the end of June.

This type of running – running for speed and effort, focusing on mechanics and expertise – seems to suit me right now. And if there is something I know about myself, it is that I do things pretty well that suit me. This, of course, leaves a healthy room for self-critique for not doing that which doesn’t suit me.

And here on Sunday afternoon, May 17 2026, I have decided that it is time for this cold that I have caught to be over. I hope that my body will comply with my mind’s wishes.
