Believe it or not, there are better ways I could be spending my time than waiting on the world by scrolling Twitter.
Here’s a list of things to learn that come to mind:
- Buy a chainsaw, get free trees, get an axe, split into firewood, try and sell it
- Read more. By “more”, I mean sort of become obsessed with reading – tear through the rest of Count of Monte Cristo and start the next one. Fill my mind with stories.
- Learn how to work on a car.
- Learn how to build some sort of building.
- Improve my running speed.
- Learn financial markets! Learn supply chains. Learn about seaborne logistics, capital allocation, how to use a Bloomberg Terminal! Wow! Who knows!
- How to dress well.
It almost feels childish to have to write about this, but I’m recognizing there I need to start doing more and learning something that I work on over time, throughout time, would be very useful to that end.
As a kid I don’t think I even considered that sitting back and watching things happen around you, spending hours a day looking at screen for work and then that becoming “play”, was a possible reality. But slowly, slowly, this is what comes my way.
Rather than this, I’d like to be doing. To be learning. To be interested and interesting. Working on something. Piddling around. That! is a good way to spend time.
