2025, Christmas Day

Ahh, Christmas. This is our first “tradition-building” Christmas and it’s been a blast.

6:55 AM, Greta wakes us up to let us know that Goldie is awake and she’d like some milk. We attempted a 15 minute snooze, but gave that up a few minutes in. It was wishful, this is Christmas. You have to get right to it.

7:00 AM – 9 AM: read the birth story of Jesus from the Gospel of Luke. Open gifts! Fun. Funny. Lots of bits of things on the ground. Breakfast. Coffee!

9:45 AM – 11:30 AM: hike Lookout rocks! If we can make this a firm tradition, I’ll be very happy about that.

Kids did awesome. Great attitudes. Excited. Took water breaks when they were tired. Got up, kept going.

It’s a short hike, but lots of big steps on rocks and takes about as much lunging as a 5 and 3 year old can manage. They hunted diamonds (trail markers) the whole time and that was a great lead on to keep going.

Got a coffee from the Dripolator afterwards. Surprised they were open!

12:00 – 5:30 PM: movies, played with Christmas toys inside, played with Christmas toys outside and chatted with our neighbor. Facetimed my parents and grandmother with the kids while playing more with Christmas toys inside.

6:00 PM: dinner then bed. Sadie made green bean casserole and a honey glazed ham.

Amazing day!

Very grateful for the ability to celebrate at home, build our life through the advent story, and begin to build our traditions as a family.
